Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effect of spironolactone on ventricular arrhymias complicated with chronic congestive heart failure. Methods: 32 patients with vetricular arrhythmias complicated with chronic congestive heart failure were divided randomly into two groups .The treatment group received spironolactone along with standard medical management using Digoxin,Captopril and furosemide, the contrast group only received standard medical treatment. The changes of electrolyte and episodes of ventricular arrhythmias were used to assess the effect. Results:There is a significant electrolytic balance in the spironolactone treated group in contrast to the negligible improvement in the contrast group. While the number of hourly ventricular premature beats and the episodes of non-sustained ventricular tachycardia per 24 hours decreased in both groups, the treatment group decreased more than the contrast group (P0.001).Conclusion:Spironolactone is helpful in controlling ventricular arrhythmias in chronic congestive heart failure.
