Triple Surgery Combined with Adjustable Sutures for the Treatment of Glaucoma Complicated with Cataract

[Objective]To evaluate the effectiveness of triple procedure including phacoemulsification,posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation and trabeculectomy combined with adjustable sutures in the treatment of patients with coexisting glaucoma and cataract.[Methods]Twenty two patients(24 eyes) with coexisting glaucoma and cataract underwent triple procedure combined with adjustable sutures.The mean follow-up was 16.1 months(8～36 months).[Results]The mean preoperative intraocular pressure(IOP) was(24.36±2.28) mmHg(1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa) which decreased to a mean postoperative IOP of(14.12±1.89) mmHg(P0.001).After follow-up for 6 months,the corrected visual acuity were ≥0.2 in 22 eyes higher than those before surgery(P0.001).No eyes used any medications at the last follow-up.The early postoperative complication was corneal edema in 4 eyes(16.7%).The complications such as shallow anterior chamber,choriodal detachment and macular edema etc.were not discovered.[Conclusion]The triple procedure combined with adjustable sutures is effective for treating patients with coexisting cataract and glaucoma.It can improve the valid visual acuity rapidly and reduce intraocular pressure with less medication,and has less postoperative complications.
