Phacoemulsification Combined with Trabeculectomy in 71 Cases of Glaucoma with Cataract

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of triple procedure,including phacoemulsification,posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation and trabeculectomy,in patients with glaucoma with cataract.Methods Seventy-one patients(71eyes)with coexisting glaucoma and cataract underwent triple procedure.The mean du- ration of follow-up was 3.8 months(1～6months).Results The mean preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP)was(45.77±19.39)mmHg(lmmHg=0.133kPa)which decreased to a mean postoperative IOP of (12.34±5.41)mmHg.Twenty-seven eyes had a best-corrected visual acuity of≥10.6 at the last follow-up (range,0.02～1.0).Thirty-one eyes of closed chamber angle was repened postoperatively.The mean anterior chamber depth was(2.09±0.25)mm preoperatively and(2.96±0.39)mm postoperatively.Conclusion The triple procedure appears effective for treating selected patients with coexisting cataract and glaucoma,improving the valid visual acuity rapidly reducing intraocular pressure with less medications and having less postoperative complications.
