Study of postoperative intraocular pressure of triple-procedure or trabeculectomy in treatment of patients with coexisting glaucoma and cataract

[Objective] To evaluate the postoperative intraocular pressure of trabeculectomy and triple-procedure,including phacoemulsification,posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation and deep sclerectomy,in patients with coexisting glaucoma and cataract.[Methods] 37 patients(46 eyes)with coexisting glaucoma and cataract underwent triple-procedure while 20 patients(26 eyes)with coexisting glaucoma and cataract underwent trabeculectomy.The mean follow-up was 6.9 months(3～12 month).[Results] The postoperative intraocular pressure of all patients decreased to a safe range(P 0.01)and the reduction of the two group also showed no statistical difference(t=0.166,P 0.05).The postoperative visual acuity of triple-procedure group improved notably(χ2=18.254,P 0.01),but there was no statistical difference between the preoperative and postoperative visual acuity of trabeculectomy group(χ2=0.308,P 0.05).[Conclusions] The triple-procedure appears effective for treating selected patients with coexisting glaucoma and cataract improving the valid visual acuity rapidly,reducing intraocular pressure apparently and has less postoperative complications.
