Abstract
Objective To investigate the changes and significance of C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) before and after treatment. Methods Eighty patients of AECOPD admitted from January to September 2008 were enrolled in this study. CRP,white blood cell count(WBC),percentage of neutrophil(N%),rythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),and temperature were measured and compared before and after the treatment with effective antibiotics. Results Positive rate of CRP for patients with AECOPD before treatment was 100.00%,not only significantly higher than WBC,N%,ESR,and temperature (P0.05),but also higher than after the treatment. Conclusion CRP is a sensitive indicator for bacterial infection, and can be served as a guideline for clinical treatment.
