Study of antidepressants plus comprehensive nursing intervention in post-stroke patients with depression

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of antidepressants plus comprehensive nursing intervention on recovery of patients with post-stroke depression(PSD).MethodsA total of 65 patients with PSD were randomly divided into observation group and control group.Two groups of patients received medical treatment and rehabilitation training,and the observation group also received the comprehensive nursing therapy combined with antidepressants.Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD),Modified Edinburgh-Scandinavian Scoring Scale(MESSS),Mini-mental State Examination(MESS),and Barthel Index(BI) were used to assess depressive symptoms,neurological functional deficit,cognitive function and daily living function.ResultsAfter four weeks of treatment,HAMD score of observation group significantly decreased,but that of control group had no change.The scores of MESSS,MESS and BI in two groups had significant improvement after treatment,while the improvement of observation group was significantly better than that of control group.ConclusionAntidepressants plus comprehensive nursing intervention could significantly improve depressive symptoms and function of patients with PSD.
