Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression and significance of COX-2 and NF-κB in cervical cancer. Methods:Immunohistochemical method was applied to examine the expression of COX-2 and NF-κB,in 20 normal and 68 cervical cancer tissues. Results: COX-2 was detected in 43 of 68(63.24%) cervical cancer tissues, but 15% in normal cervix tissues;the expression of COX-2 in the two groups was significantly different(χ2=14.41,P0.01);NF-κB was detected in 49 of 68(72.06%) cervical cancer tissues, but 10% in normal cervix tissues;the expression of NF-κB in the two groups was significantly different(χ2=24.43,P0.01).COX-2 and NF-κB expression in cervical cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in normal cervical tissues, and was associated with clinical stage, pathological grade, lymph node metastasis, but not associated with patient's age and histological type.Conclusion:COX-2 and NF-κB may play an important role in the oncogenesis and development of cervical carcinoma.
