Correlation of expression of survivin mRNA in peripheral blood of esophageal cancer to chemosensitivity and prognostic significance

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the relationship of expression of survivin in the peripheral blood of esophageal cancer to chemosensitivity and prognostic significance.Methods:Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR was used to detect the expression of survivin mRNA in the peripheral blood samples abtained from 103 patients with esophageal cancer.Meanwhile,the correlation of expression of survivin in the peripheral blood of esophageal cancer to chemosensitivity and prognostic significance was identified.Results:The expression of survivin mRNA in the blood was inversely correlated with the effect of FP and TP regimens.However,the expression of survivin mRNA in the blood was not correlated with the effect of the NP regimen.Moreover,overall survival(OS) for patients with high survivin mRNA expression was less than that for patients with low survivin mRNA group expression.Conclusion:The expression of survivin mRNA in the peripheral blood of patients with esophageal cancer can prognosticate OS and choice the regimen of chemotherapy.
