Abstract
Ethyl coumarin-3-carboxylate was synthesized from salicylaldehyde and diethyl malonate by the Knoevenagel condensation reaction using diethylamine as the catalyst under microwave irradiation and solvent-free condition. The factors which could affect the reaction were investigated and optimized.Under the optimum conditions, the yield of ethyl coumarin-3-car-boxylate was 88.0%.In addition, the product structure was characterized by the melting point measurement,IR spectrometry, and 1HNMR spectroscopy.
