Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between apolipoprotein E polymorphism and coronary heart disease(CHD). Method We studied 90 patients with CHD and 90 control subjects without symptoms and sign of CHD. Polymorphism of apolipoprotein E alleles were measured by polymerase chain reaction (PCR),HhaI anzyme digestion and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Results 5 genotypes, including E2/3,E3/3,E2/4,E3/4 and E4/4 were examined. The frequencies of apolipoprotein e4 allele and E3/4 genotype(16.1% and 21.1% respectively) were obviously higher in CHD group than in control group (P0.05). The frequency of apolipoprotein e4 allele (5%) in control group was lower than that of people in western countries. Conclusion The apolipoprotein E polymorphism is related to the occurrence of coronary heart disease;apolipoprotein E4 allele is one of the most important hereditary factor for the occurrence of CHD.
