A Study of the Relationship between Serum Brain Natriuretic Peptide Level and the Clinical Characteristics of Acute Coronary Artery Syndrome

Abstract

Objective: To observe and analyze the serum brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) levels in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS) of different clinical spectra,and To study the significance of BNP level in therapic strategy making and prognosis evaluating for ACS patients.Methods: The serum BNP levels of 80 ACS patients and 29 people with normal coronary artery(control group) admitted to the hospital were determined and analysed.Among the patients,there were 38 cases with unstable angina(UA),20 cases with Non-ST elevation myocardial infarction(NSTEMI),and 22cases with ST elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI).Results: The BNP level of the control group(17.46±8.45pg/ml) was significantly lower than those of patient groups(all P0.05).BNP level of group UA(27.3±12.99pg/ml) was significantly lower than those of group NSTEMI(38.42±17.44pg/ml) and group STEMI(46.18±20.48pg/ml)(P0.05),while there was no significant difference between BNP levels of group NSTEMI and group STEMI (P0.05).Conclusions: Serum BNP level may be regarded as a reference index for diagnosis and severity evaluating of ACS.
