Clinical Evaluation of the Hand ProTaper Nickel-titanium Files in the Time and the Post-operative Pain of Root Canal Preparation

Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of root canal preparation between the techniques of using ProTaper nickel-titanium hand-file and the standard hand stainless steel K file. Methods 221 molars of 216 cases of pulpitis were divided into two groups according to the parity numbers of treatment orders. 112 molars were prepared by ProTaper nickel-titanium instrument with crown-down technique in the experimental group,and 109 molars by K file with step-back technique in control group. The preparing time were recorded. Patients were viewed 3 days later,the incidence and degree of post-operative pain were recorded. Results The hand ProTaper technique showed less time,and it also caused less post-operative pain. Conclusion ProTaper nickel-titanium hand-file can be used for preparation of root canals effectively and can reduce post-operative pain. The techniques of using ProTaper nickel-titanium hand-file system is worth wide application.
