Pathological observation of the relation between Helicobacter pylori and activity of gastritis

Objective: To study the relation between Helicobacter pylori (Hp) in gastric cancer prevalent population and activity of gastritis. Methods:A survey was conducted on adult population in gastric cancer prevalent area. 533 individuals were subjected to gastroendoscopy. Biopsy specimens were taken to be tested by rapid urease tests and histology with w s stain positive as criterion of Hp infection. Data were treated with chi square. Results: (1) Hp infection in adults maintained 64.54% and the rate of active gastritis was 69.42%. (2) Hp infection in active gastritis was 92.43%. (3) In Hp infection cases the rate of active gastritis was 99.42%. (4) The incidence of active gastritis of antrum and lesser curvature of body were higher than that of fundus, and that of antrum higher than that of lesser of body. (5) In Hp infection cases, the detection on rate of Hp in active gastritis was high in different specimens. (6)After Hp eradication, rate of active gastritis appeared to descend (5.77%) . Conclusion:(1) Hp and the activity of gastritis had a close relation. (2) The detection of Hp suggested an active inflammation in gastric membrane.
