Abstract
Objective To evaluate the characteristics of an automatic nucleated red blood cell (NRBC) count by blood cell analyzer and research its clinical applications.Method The peripheral blood NRBC of 115 patients suffering from hematological diseases or other diseases were counted by both Sysmex XE-21000 automatic blood cell analyzer and manual method with microscope. Results There was a very good correlation between the manual and automatic method (r0.97) . No significant difference was observed between the counting results of two methods(P=0.201 8). The average intra lot CV of absolute NRBC count of high, medium and low value was below 6.5%. The NRBC counts was rather linear(r=0.999 8) in the range of 0~15 ×10~9/L. Both the sensitivity and negative prediction value were 100%. When the peripheral NRBC increases, the counting of WBC was significantly higher than the value obtained when the NRBC was depleted (P=0.016 8).Conclusions The NRBC counting by the XE-2100 was sensitive, accurate and reliable. The XE-2000 can measure the WBC accurately in sample with increased NRBC. Besides patients with hematological diseases, such as leukemia, anemia etc, the NRBC could also be observed in other patients with non hematological diseases, e.g. cancer chemotherapy. The automatic evaluation of peripheral NRBC maybe helpful to the screening and diagnosis of some hematological and non hematological diseases.
