Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of HER-2/neu、PCNA in bladder transitional cell cancer(BTCC) and normal bladder tissues, and to study their clinical significance. Methods Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of HER-2/neu,PCNA in 58 cases of BTCC and 22 cases of normal bladder tissues. The investigation included the relationship of HER-2/neu and PCNA with BTCC in various pathological grades and clinical stages; whether or not there was correlation between HER-2/neu and PCNA. Results The expression rate of HER-2/neu and PCNA in BTCC was 53.4%、63.8% respectively, which was significantly higher than the normal bladder tissues. The expression rate of HER-2/neu in well-differentiated and superficial BTCC was 21.7% and 29.0% respectively, lower than poorly-differentiated and invasive BTCC. The expression rate of PCNA in well-differentiated and superficial BTCC was 30.4%、35.5% respectively, lower than poorly-differentiated and invasive BTCC. Significant positive correlation of HER-2/neu and PCNA was found in BTCC. Conclusions HER-2/neu may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and development of BTCC and may become a useful index to diagnose and evaluate the malignancy of BTCC.
