Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of S100A8 protein in transitional cell carcinoma of bladder(BTCC) and analyze its clinical significance. Methods The expression of S100A8 protein in 68 cases of BTCC and 10 cases of adjacent normal bladder tissues was detected by immunohistochemical staining and its correlations to clinic pathologic features was then analyzed. Results Expression of S100A8 protein was higher in BTCC than in adjacent normal bladder tissues(55.9% versus 0%,P0.01).S100A8 protein expression rates were 78.9% and 46.9% in pT2-pT4 BTCC and pTa-pT1 BTCC(P0.05),while 29.2% and 70.5% in PUNLMP plus low-grade BTCC and high-grade BTCC(P0.01),respectively.There was no difference between recurrence and non-recurrence(72.7% versus47.8%,P0.05).Conclusion The expression of S100A8 protein was higher in BTCC than in the adjacent normal tissues, which was associated with pathologic grade and Stage of BTCC.The expression level of S100A8 protein was getting higher with the increase of tumor pathology grade and stage. We might speculate that S100A8 protein was correlated with the currency and progression of BTCC.The detection of the expression of S100A8 protein is in favor of prognostic evaluation of bladder cancer.
