Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of BRCA1 protein in sporadic breast cancer. Methods The expression level of BRCA1 protein was detected by immunohistochemistry(IHC)with Streptavidin-Peroxidase(SP)method in benign breast tissues and sporadic breast carcinoma tissues. Results The positive expression rates of BRCA1 were 100%(10/10)and 56.3%(27/48)in benign breast tissues and sporadic breast carcinoma tissues, respectively. The difference in BRCA1 expression between the two groups was significant(P0.01).In the sporadic breast cancer tissues,BRCA1 express in cytoplasm or in cytoplasm and nuclei.Furthermore, loss of BRCA1 expression in breast cancer tissues was correlated with the age of the patients. Conclusion Loss of BRCA1 expression is higher in sporadic breast cancer than in benign breast tissues;Loss of BRCA1 expression in sporadic breast is correlated with age.Altered BRCA1 phenotype may therefore provide an additional prognostic parameter for breast cancer.
