Abstract
Objective To investigate relationship between the expression of BRCA1 protein in sporadic breast cancer. Methods The expression level of BRCA1 protein was detected by immunohistochemistry(IHC)with Streptavidin-Peroxidase(SP)method in benign breast tissues. Results The positive expression rates of BRCA1 were 100% (10/10)and 56.3% (27/48)in benign breast tissues and sporadic breast carcinoma tissues, respectively. The difference of BRCA1 expression between the two groups was significant(P0.01).In the sporadic breast cancer tissues,BRCA1 express in nuclei or in cytoplasm and nuclei.Furthermore, loss of BRCA1 expression in breast cancer tissues was correlated with the age of the patients and metastasis to axillary lymph nodes. And the loss of expression of BRCA1 was not significantly related to the pathological types, histological grade, tumor size, and stage status. Conclusion In sporadic breast cancer, loss of BRCA1 expression is correlated with age,and metastasis to axillary lymph nodes.Altered BRCA1 phenotype may therefore provide an additional prognostic parameter for breast cancer.
