Abstract

Objective To discuss the correlation between levels of serum homocysteine ( HCY ) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein ( hs-CRP ) and carotid intima-media thickness ( IMT ) in senile patients with hypertension.. Methods The senile patients (≥ 60 years old ) with hypertension were selected and divided into normal group ( n =36 ) , IMT group ( n =38 ) and plaque group ( n =41 ) according to the results of IMT examination. The levels of blood pressure, blood fat, HCY and hs-CRP were detected respectively in all groups and the correlation between them and IMT was analyzed. Results In three groups, systolic blood pressure ( SBP ) , and levels of total cholesterol ( TC ) , low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol ( LDL-C ) , HCY and hsCRP increased successively ( P 0.05 ) . The relative analysis showed that IMT was correlated to age, SBP, TC, LDL-C, HCY and hs-CRP. The multiple regression analysis showed that HCY and hs-CRP were influence factor on IMT. Conclusion The levels of serum HCY and hs-CRP are closely related to the degree of atherosclerosis, which can be taken as a risk signal for cardio-cerebro-vascular diseases in the body.
