Comparison Study of Aberration between Wavefront Guided LASIK and Traditional LASIK

Abstract

objective:To verify whether there are differences in visual outcome, including higher order aberrations, after performing laser in situ keratomileusis with conventional ablation and wavefront-guided ablation in myopia. Methods:One hundred and thirty-eight eyes of 69 myopic subjects were selected as trial group, which underwent wavefront-guided LASIK and another 138 eyes of 69 myopic subjects were selected as control, which underwent conventional LASIK. In each group, the eyes were divided into three subgroups according to myopia diopter. The visual outcome and higher order aberrations were compared at 6 months postoperatively. Results:After 6 months, 39.86% of eyes achieved 1.5 or better uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) in trial group while 15.94% in control group (P 0.05). After 6 months, the outcome of whole wavefront aberrations and the higher order aberrations were statistically lower in the trial group than that of control group (P 0.05). There was a low myopia of Z6 and Z12 in the trial group than that of control group postoperatively; Z6,Z7 and Z12 of moderate myopia were lower in the trial group than the control group postoperatively; Z6 and Z12 of high myopia were lower in the trial group than the control group postoperatively (P 0.05). Conclusion:The vision results of wavefront-guided LASIK are better than the conventional LASIK. The wavefront-guided LASIK has more advantage in correcting the whole aberration, the higher order aberration especially the third and the fourth order aberration than conventional LASIK.
