Treatment for chronic invasive fungal rhinosinusitis with endoscopic sinus surgery

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of endoscopic sinus surgery(ESS) for chronic invasive fungal rhinosinusitis.Methods 45 cases of chronic invasive fungal rhinosinusitis were treated with endoscopic sinus surgery.During operation,all the involved tissues including sinusal mucosa and bone were thoroughly eliminated.The wounds were washed with fluconazole after operation.Results After follow-up for 6 to 72 months,41 patients were cured and 4 recurred cases were cured by revision ESS.No complication occurred.Conclusion Endoscopic sinus surgery is an ideal way of treating chronic invasive fungal rhinosinusitis.Postoperative endoscopic check and wound irrigation with fluconazole are beneficial to success.
