Abstract
Objective To investigate the long term effect of perindopril on the patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) Methods Seventy two CHF patients were divided into the treatment group (43 cases) and the control group (29cases) randomly The general therapy was given to the control group Besides this therapy, perindopril (2 mg 4 mg) was added to the treatment group The pedal stress test performed in the CHF patients with NYHA class II III prior to and at the end of 4 year treatment The maximum motion quantity (Mqmax) and the motion continuance time (MCT) were recorded Results The rehospitalization rate was 82 76% in the control group and 25 58% in the treatment group ( P 0 005) The mortality rate was 31 03% in the control group and 9 30% in the treatment group ( P 0 025) within 4 years After 4 years, the heart function (NYHA),Mqmax and MCT improved obviously in the treatment group ( P 0 001,respectively) but did not change significantly in the control group Conclusion The long term prognosis could be improved by perindopril in the CHF patients
