Abstract

Objective:The aim of this study is to discuss the correlations between serum PSA and some major indexes of them, and the evaluation of serum PSA to inflammatory degree and its value in chronic nonbacterial prostatitis clinic diagnosis.Methods:304 outpatients who had been diagnosed as chronic nonbacterial prostatitis were collected from Apr.2007 to Feb.2010.All men had been phlebotomized vein blood and assayed serum PSA, measured 3 radials of prostate by transabdomen ultrasonic, done digital rectal examination (DRE) and got expressed prostatic secretions (EPS), then undergone a routine check undermicroscope and a bacteria culture.Results:① The mean value of serum PSA was 1.49±1.26ng/ml in 304 patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, and the serum PSA values of 20 patients olderthan45 years were foundover4.0ng/ml.The meanvalue of prostate volume andprostate specific antigendensity (PSAD) was 17.1±7.4ml and 0.081±0.052ng/ml.cc-1 respectively.② Serum PSA had a positive correlation with patient age, prostate volume and prostate specific antigen density (PSAD); while it had no correlation with course of disease, white blood cell (WBC) counts, pus cell counts and lecithin body counts of expressed prostate secretions (EPS).In multifactorstepwise regression analysis, both patient age and prostate volume were enter equation, and the coefficient of determination (R2) of prostate volume to PSA was 0.213, and the total coefficient of determination (R2) of prostate volume and patient age to PSA was 0.277, and the standardized coefficient (β) of prostate volume and patient age was 0.336 and 0.282 respectively.Conclusions:Patient age and prostate volume are important factors impacting serum PSA levels in patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, but the inflammation is the most important factor.
