Abstract
Objective To observe the level of plasma homocysteine (Hcy) in patients with diabetes mellitus and those with complicated cerebral infarction by case-control study, and to study the possible mechanism of the complication. Methods (Thirty-eight cases) of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), 41 cases of DM complicated cerebral infarction and 40 normal controls were selected, and the levels of plasma Hcy were measured using FPIA method. Results The level of plasma Hcy in patients with type 2 DM and DM complicated cerebral infarction were higher than that in the controls, and plasma Hcy in the group of DM complicated infarction was also higher than that in the DM group (F=48.85,q=5.01-13.84, P0.01). Logistic analysis showed the increase of plasma Hcy associated with DM complated cerebral infarction (OR 1.339, 95% CI 1.115-1.584). Conclusion (The level of) plasma Hcy in patients with type 2 DM and DM complicated cerebral infarction are higher than that in the controls, and the increase of plasma Hcy is probably associated with DM complicated cerebral infarction.
