Leading causes of death among residents in Wenzhou in Zhejiang province,2010

Objective To understand the mortality level and the causes of death among the residents in Wenzhou and provide scientific evidence for developing prevention measures.Methods The analysis on death causes was based on the death data among the residents in Wenzhou in 2010,the classification of death cause was according to ICD-10.The standardized death rate was calculated by using the population census data in China in 2000.Results The crude death rate was 559.11/lakh and the standardized death rate was 406.86/lakh.The first five leading death causes were as follows: malignant tumor,cerebrovascular disease,heart disease,respiratory diseases and injury/poisoning.The deaths caused by these diseases accounted for 83.06% of the total.Conclusion The chronic diseases and injury were the major death causes among the residents in Wenzhou in 2010.It is necessary to strengthen the prevention and control of chronic diseases and injury.
