Relationship of Hypoxia Inducible Factor 1α and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Expression With Biological Behavior in Gastric Carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship of the hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) with the clinical pathology factor in gastric carcinoma. Methods Forty-eight samples of gastric carcinoma tissues were examined for HIF-1α and VEGF expression by SABC immunohisto- chemical method. Results The positive expression rate of HIF-1α was 66.7% in gastric carcinoma. The positive expression rate of VEGF was 60.4% in gastric carcinoma. The expression of HIF-1α and VEGF was significantly correlated with the depth of invasion ,lymph node metastasis and TNM stage. VEGF expression was positive correlated with HIF-1α expression. Conclusion The positive expression of VEGF relied on HIF-1α expression in gastric carcinoma. The overexpression of HIF-1α and VEGF related with poor biological behavior of gastric carcinoma. They can be taken as useful marker for predicting invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma.
