Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of nutrition support in the treatment of critically ill surgical patients. Methods 148 patients who were critically ill were divided into two groups: group A consisted of 26 patients received EN; group B,122 patients, recieved PN. Nutrition support begin with small dosage and low concentration, and gradually increased to full dosage. During nutrition support, general condition of the patients, the function of liver and kidney, blood sugar, blood lipid, microelements and minerals in blood were determined, and the prescription of nutrition aliment were modulated according to the results. Results No one died in group A;the mortality in group B was 2.46%, but there was no direct relationship between the death and TPN. The effect on enhencing the cure rate and improving prognosis and nutrition was great. Conclusion To surgical critical patients, nutrition support can improve prognosis and living quality, reduce complication, enhence cure rate.
