Abstract

Objective:To investigate the value of individual or combined detections of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),CEA and CYFRA21-1 in differential diagnosis between benign and malignant pleural effusion,so as to elevate the levels of pleural effusion diagnosis.Methods:80 cases of various pleural effusion were collected.VEGF levels were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent-assay(ELISA) and contents of CEA and CYFRA21-1 were determined by electrochemiluminescence method. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of individual or combined detections of VEGF,CEA and CYFRA21-1 in differential diagnosis were calculated. Results:The levels of VEGF,CEA and CYFRA21-1 in malignant pleural effusion were significantly higher than benign pleural effusion(P0.01).The sensitivity of combined assay with hydrothorax VEGF,CEA and CYFRA21-1 in diagnosing malignant pleural effusion was proved. Conclusion:The determination of VEGF,CEA and CYFRA21-1 levels in malignant pleural effusion might contribute to differentiate benign pleural effusion from malignant pleural effusion. The concentrations of CEA and CYFRA21-1 in malignant pleural effusion might have the certain functions in the differential diagnosis of the histological origins of the malignant pleural effusion.Combined determinations of pleural effusion VEGF,CEA and CYFRA21-1 levels might significantly enhance the sensitivity of malignant pleural effusion diagnosis.
