Relation between salt tolerance of grape rootstock and MDA and proline contents in grape leaves

Abstract

One-year-old seedling of three rootstock varieties of grape with different salt tolerances,which were hydroponically cultured,were treated with NaCl at different concentrations to examine how the MDA and proline contents varied in the leaves.It was shown that under salt stress,the rootstock varieties of grape with different salt tolerances differed in their leaves MDA and proline content.Salt stress affected the MDA content in the leaves of ZM01-1,a variety with high salt tolerance,to a lower extent and the MDA content remained at a stable level,but caused the MDA contents in the leaves of the other varieties to vary to a large extent.Under salt stress the proline contents appeared to vary in a wavy manner.ZM01-1,a variety with high salt tolerance,accumulated a small amount of proline at 0.1% NaCl and a big amount of proline at 0.3% NaCl.The study indicated that MDA content could be used as an auxiliary index to evaluate salt tolerances of grape because of its relative stability and proline content were not suitable to be used in salt tolerance evaluation of grape.
