Abstract

Objective To understand residents' willingness and satisfaction of seeking medical services and relevant determinants in Kunming so as to provide scientific references for the development of community health service centers. Methods Via random sampling method,20 community health service centers were selected and 208 residents seeking medical services were investigated with questionnaires. Meanwhile, via purposive sampling some respondents were selected and conducted qualitative investigation. Results Under condition of the severe two- week illness,82. 5% of the residents preferred to hospitals, and 65% of residents went to community health service centers when the two-week illness was mild. Respondents with characteristics of retirees, low incomes, visiting doctors frequently, favored convenience and paid high medical bills preferred community health service centers. Residents were almost satisfied with community health service centers except for the poorly equipped facilities. Conclusion When illnesses are moderate, community health service centers are feasible as the first choice for medical service. However, the government is expected to fund the establishment of community health service utilities, implement the regulatory management of general practitioners and pay attention to the public welfare of community health services.
