Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect on limb function of early usage of continuous passive motion therapy instrument after operation of bone fractures around the knee joint. Methods Eighty-two patients suffered from fractures around the knee joint were divided into a test group(43 patients) and a control group(39 patients) by odd/even number of admission date. The test group was treated by continuous passive motion therapy instrument 2 days after operation, and the control group was treated by the same method 7 days after operation. The edema around the knee and the joint function of both group were observed. Results Two weeks after the operation, the number of cases with mild edema of low extremities were higher, but the case number of moderate or severe was obviously less than that in the control group(P0.05). In the test group, the case number with range of motion of the knee (120°) were superior and the case number (120°~110° and below) was inferior to that in the control group (P0.05).There were significant differences between the two groups when compared. Conclusion Early usage of continuous passive motion therapy instrument after operation of bone fractures around the knee joint can reduce edema around the knee and prevent the stiffness of the knee joint.
