Abstract

Pseudobagrus ondon shawDescription of 178. Total length 45-324 mm, standard length 38-284 mm. Specimens from Zhejiang, Henan, Shaanxi in China and from Korea.D. Ⅱ-7-8; A. 18-23; P. 1-6-8; Ⅴ. i-5 Gill-rakers on the inner row of the first arch 9-14. Vertebrae 5 + 40-45.Depth 4.0-9.6 in standard length, Tip of snout to origin of dorsal fin 2.7-4.2, Length of head 3.2-5.8, wide of head 4.4-9.1, Depth of head 4.9-11.2, Length of caudal pedunels 5.5 -5.8, Its depth 10.0-15.8. Snout 2.5-3.8 in head, eye 4.5-12.2, interorbital space 1.4-3.4, Upper jaw barbels 0.9-2.0. Depth of caudal peduncle 1.3-3.4 in its length.Body much elongate, subcylindrical anteriorly of ventral fin, compressed posteriorly, caudal peduncle have nudeveloped edges wirnkles. Head wide and depressed. Occipital process extended backward. The upper jaw projected beyond the lower. Mouth crescent, teeth villiform forming band on the premaxillaries and dentaries. Eye moderate size, superolateral, at anterior half of head, Nostrils separated, the anterior nearer snout than eye and posterior nearer eye than snout. Four pairs of barbels, nasal barbels go beyond posterior margin of eye, maxillary ones rather longer, reaching the base of pectoral, the outside lower jaw barbels reaching gill-opening.There is clear variation of body proportion between the young and adult fish, The depth body and length of head incveases slowly, but the length of body and length of caudal peduncle incveases faster. The interval from occipital process to basal bone of dorsal fin becomes big gradually, from nearer to farther separated.Dorsal fin short, its spine smooth behind. Pectoral spine strong, serrated behind and be-fore. Adipose fin shorter than anal. Anal fin opposite to the adipose fin. Ventral fin (♀, Young) reaching origin of anal, but body (♂) not reaching. Caudal fin slightly emarginate and truncatus. Lateral line complete. Scales absent. Intestines short, its length 0.5-0.8 in length of body. The swim bladder is one-room. The spermary is composed of 80-96 small seminal vesicle.Dorsal and lateral side bark brown colour, more or less blackish. Ventral side light grey. Lateral line paler. Neckpart have transverse band of pale yellow colour.
