A Study on Constructing Small Cities and Towns and the Rural Economic Development in Gansu

Constructing small cities and towns in Gansu Province needs to seek the joint between the small-city construction and the rural economic development, to encourage labor-intensive rural enterprises, especially those agro-industries which supply the rural area and agriculture industry with inputs and consumption of local agriculture byproducts, and the rural area third industries which serve the agriculture industry with technology expansion, finance and insurance, etc. So that we can accelerate the non-agriculture process in rural area and increase the income of peasants, as a result, to prepare well for the transformation of traditional agriculture. Constructing small-city in Gansu province can be pushed forward in three aspects as follows: ladder-push stra- tegy, characteristic industry prospering city strategy and point-axis strategy.
