Abstract

A novel catalytic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace nitrite has been developed. It is based on the catalytic effect of nitrite on the discoloring reaction of nile blue oxidized by potassium bromate in acidic medium at room temperature. The linear range of determination is 80-5 000 ng/mL for nitrite, and the detection limit is 51 ng/mL. It has been applied to determine trace mitrite in water.
