On Shen Congwen's Cultural Psychology

Cultural psychological perspective is an important window on learning about Shen Congwen. The new Taoist ideology forms his peculiar cultural, psychological structure in which capturing stillness and expressing that beauty always makes people sad are especially prominent. Modern criticism is on another aspect of his cultural psychology: the Han people, locust flying from abroad, asexualization being depravity, and illness being oft-used image. After 1949, in the time of simplified belief and uniform behavior, Shen was unable to adapt himself to the self-thinking of thinking and believing and finally he was of wild nature in returning to traditional culture.
