Abstract

Objective To explore the influences of anemia in the third trimester on pregnant women and their infants. Methods 196 pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester were recruited as research group from January 2011 to January 2012,and 170 healthy pregnant women were selected as the control group.Postpartum hemorrhage and other pregnancy outcomes were measured between 2 groups. So did the calculation of anemia and weight in 6-month infants. Results The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage in research group(11.22%) was higher than that in control group(4.71%).The incidence of preterm birth and fetal distress in anemia group were 10.20%(20/196) and 9.69%(19/196) respectively. The anemia incidence of infants in 6 months was 56.12%(110/196) in research group compared with 35.29%(60 /170) in controls which indicated statistical significance(P 0.05).Conclusion Significant negative influences were found in pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester, which suggest that the prevention of anemia in pregnant women should be strengthened to improve health status of pregnant women and their infants.
