Determination of level of epidermal growth factor in the serum from patients with gastric carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes of levels of epidermal growth factor(EGF) in the serum from gastric carcinoma patients.Methods The levels of EGF from forty six patients were determined by radioimmunoassay(RIA).Results The level of EGF from gastric carcinoma patients was significantly higher than that from the normal (P0.01),and it was also significantly higher in patients of moderate or advanced gastric carcinoma than that of early gastric carcinoma patients(P0.05).Conclusion The detection of EGF level in the serum from gastric carcinoma patients plays an important role in differentiating malignancy of carcinoma and evaluating its prognsosis.
