Abstract
Objective To observe the effects of Qingdi composition-Chinese traditional medicine-on patients undergoing radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC). Methods Eighty-four NPC patients were randomly divided into study group and control group. The patients in study group received Qingdi composition during the whole course of radiotherapy, and those in the control group received vitamin C tablet. Both groups were radiated using linear electron accelerator with routine dissection: nasopharynx area with radiation dosage of DT 7 000 cGy and cervix area with prophylactic radiation of DT 5 000 cGy.No chemotherapy was applied to either group. Results Compared with the control group, the occurrence of acute stomatitis in the study group was delayed(t=126.40,P0.001);The incidence of dry mouth was lower(χ2=8.64,P0.01);The total effective was higher(χ2=4.44,P0.05). Conclusion Qingdi mixture can delay the onset of acute stomatitis and decrease the incidence of dry mouth, raise the local control rate and lessen the side effects of the radiotherapy.
