Abstract
Objective To analyze the expression of estrogen receptor(ER),progesterone receptor(PR),and C-erbB-2 in elderly patients with breast cancer, and to explore the correlation between their expression and clinical pathological characteristics and the relation among the expression themselves. Methods Fifty-two elderly patients with breast cancer who were treated in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively.Expression of ER,PR and C-erbB-2 was detected by immunohistochemistry in the 52 patients.Correlation between ER,PR and C-erbB-2 expression and tumor size, histological grade, position, lymph node metastasis and the relation among these three expression were statistically analyzed. Results Of the 52 patients,33(63.46%)were ER positive,29(55.77%)PR positive, and 30(57.69%)C-erbB-2 positive. The expression of ER and PR was correlated with histological grade, but did not relate to tumor size, breast position(left, right, outside up quadrant, outside down quadrant, inside up quadrant, and inside down quadrant),and lymph node metastasis. The expression of C-erbB-2 was correlated with histological grade, tumor size and lymph node metastasis, but did not relate to other pathological factors. Both expression of ER and PR had negative correlation with C-erbB-2(P=0.0180,P=0.035).ER expression correlated positively with PR expression(P=0.001).Conclusions Expression of ER,PR and C-erbB-2 in breast cancer cells reflects the pathobiological features of the cancer in elderly patients, their combined detection would also helpful in treatment of breast neoplasms.
