Changes and clinical significance of brain natriuretic peptide in patients with CHD

Aim To study the relationship between severity of coronary artery stenosis with plasma levels of B-type natriuretic peptide in the patients with CHD.Methods 100 patients from Jan 2007 to Dec 2008 were included into the study.All patients were divided into normal,single,double and multivessel coronary artery disease groups by the severity of coronary artery stenosis.Their serum levels of BNP were detected by ELISA.The severity of coronary artery stenosis were evaluated through Gensini score system.Their serum levels of BNP and results of coronary artery angiography were analyzed through statistics.Results BNP levels in CHD group were higher than those in normal group and it showed statistic significant differences in multivessel disease group,single vessel,double vessel disease and normal group(P0.01).Gensini scores in CHD group were higher than normal group and it showed statistic significant differences in multi vessel disease group,single vessel,double vessel disease and normal group(P0.01).Conclusion Plasma BNP levels appeared elevated in patients with coronary artery disease.Plasma levels of BNP correlate with coronary artery disease.It may be an important clinical parameter to reflect the severity of coronary artery stenosis.
