Abstract
This research using the method of the relative capacity of resources, with some change of it calculates the carrying capacity of land resources and economic resources ,and synthetic carrying capacity of resources of Xinjiang from 1982 to 2002 and analyzes the differences of the carrying capacity between Xinjiang and the eastern areas as well as the western zones compared with the whole country. Thus conclusions were drawn: ①the contribution of land resources to the synthetic carrying capacity was much greater than the economic resources;②the unharmonious development between relative carrying capacity of land resources and relative carrying capacity of economic resources is one of the main problems in Xinjiang on its way towards the sustainable development.
