Abstract

Listening is a difficult skill for most foreign language learners.In the course of improving listening comprehension,not only a good command of linguistic knowledge such as pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar is needed,but also a deep understanding of non-linguistic knowledge such as context and culture background.By analyzing the process of listening,the essay tries to highlight the importance of linguistic and non-linguistic contexts in English listening.
