The Wu dialect substratum and history reflected in Tongtai dialect

Tongtai dialect ,which belongs to Wu dialect historically ,is rich in keeping the substratum of Wu dialect.This article descripts the relationships between the two dialects,especially the influences of the immigrants of Suzhou in the beginning of the Ming Dynasty.It also predicts the historical gradation of Wu dialect substratum through studying the local pronunciation (Baidu) and the standard pronunciation (Wendu) in Tongtai dialect.
