Abstract

Objective:To explore the role of chromosome analysis in diagnosis and prognosis of acute leukemia(AL),chronic myeloid leukemia(CML) and myelodysplastic syndromy(MDS).Methods:The clinical data of 238 patients with AL,CML and MDS were investigated. The chromosomes were obtained by short-time culture of bone marrow cell and analyzed under microscope after G-banding and R-banding.Results:The chromosome abnormality was observed in 56.30% of all the studied cases, including quantity abnormality in 15 cases(6.30%);conformal abnormality in 93 cases(39.08%);complex abnormality in 26 cases(10.92%).The incidence of abnormal karyotype was highest in patients with CML;the chromosome changes were the most complex in AL.The additional chromosome abnormality was detected in accelerated and blastic phase in patients with CML;trisomy 8 were detected in all the patients with MDS,in which 7 cases had trisomy 8 as 2 cases of RAEB—T had complex abnormality. Conclusion:The chromosome analysis was useful not only for diagnosis and differentiation, but also for treatment and prognosis in these diseases.
