Abstract
AIM: To study the antifibrogenesis effect of matrine. METHODS: The experimental liver fibrosis induced by tetrachloromethone in rats was treated with matrine. Serum alamine aminotransferase (ALT), hyaluronic acid (HA), hydroxyproline (HyP) in liver tissue and pathological change were observed in soluent compase group, tetrachloromethone group and (matrine group) rats for 3, 6, 12 wk. RESULTS: Elevated serum ALT, HA and HyP in liver tissue markedly decreased, liver necrosis and fibrogenesis were also significantly alleviated when tetrachloromethone treated rats were intragastrally given matrine for the indicated time. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that matrine has protection of hepatic cells hepatocellular death and liver fibrosis induced by tetrachloromethone action.
