Yu Shenxing's Theory of Prose

Yu Shenxing was an eminent writer of great influence in literary circle in Late Ming Dynasty.His theory of prose was independent of sectarianism and had a style of his own,playing an important role in development of classic literary theory.Yu Shenxing had been affected by the Seven Literary and shared a deep relationship with retro camp so that he could reflect and summarize theories of literature movement of retro camp initiated by Seven Literary Giants and he often turned their arguments against themselves.He witnessed abuses of literary world in Late Ming Dynasty so that he advocated rectifying style of writing,worshipping Classics,and being engaged in learning.Actually,he became precursor of literary theory between Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty who highlighted nourishment from ancient culture and Classics.He reviewed prose by Xu(modestness),promoted Mental Conception,and maintained that prose must be changed by spirit.
