Therapeutic Effect of Musculature Electroacupuncture Therapy for Yangming Meridian Musculature Associated Knee Osteoarthritis

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of musculature electroacupuncture(MEA) therapy for Yangming meridian musculature associated knee osteoarthritis.Methods One hundred and twenty qualified patients were equally randomized into two groups.The treatment group was given MEA therapy,and the control group was given meridian electroacupuncture therapy,once every other day,two weeks constituting one treatment course.After treatment,the score of Western Ontario and McMaster Universities(WOMAC) osteoarthritis index and the therapeutic effect were evaluated in both groups.Results After treatment for two weeks,the treatment group had better therapeutic effect than the control group(P 0.05).The score of each item of WOMAC was decreased in both groups after treatment(P 0.05 compared with that before treatment),and the treatment group was superior to the control group in improving WOMAC items except the rigidity(P 0.05).Conclusion MEA therapy is effective for the treatment of Yangming meridian musculature associated knee osteoarthritis.
