Clinical Observation on Electroacupuncture for Knee Osteoarthritis

Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture in treating knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Methods Seventy patients with KOA were randomized into a treatment group and a control group,35 in each.The treatment group was intervened by electroacupuncture and the control was treated by medication.The Lequesene functional index,index of severity of osteoarthritis(ISOA),and the index of disease severity(IDS) were employed to evaluate the therapeutic effects.Results After treatment,the ISOA and IDS scores were significantly different from pre-treatment in both groups(P0.05).The changes of ISOA score in the treatment group after treatment was significantly different from that of the control(P0.05).The cure and markedly effective rate was 82.9% in the treatment group,versus 60.0% in the control,and the difference was significant(P0.05).Conclusion Electroacupuncture is an effective approach in treating knee osteoarthritis.
