Therapeutic Observation on Electroacupuncture plus Warm Needling Therapy for Knee Osteoarthritis

Objective To observe the clinical effect of integrated use of electroacupuncture and warm needling therapy in treating knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Method Sixty patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group,30 in each group. The treatment group was intervened by electroacupuncture plus warm needling therapy;the control group was by conventional acupuncture.They were evaluated by using Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Lysholm Knee Scale to determine levels of pain and function of knees,and therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.Result The total effective rate was 93.3%in the treatment group versus 73.3%in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).The two groups both had marked changes in comparing VAS score and Lysholm score after treatments(P0.01).Compared with the control group,the treatment group was statistically different in VAS score and Lysholm score after treatment(P0.01).Conclusion Integrated use of electroacupuncture and warm needling therapy is effective in treating KOA.
