Schema theory and college English reading teaching

Reading is one of the main means to study English and an important aspect to promote and demonstrate the learners' abilities.Traditional teaching methods attach too much importance to the study of language points such as vocabulary and grammar,while the Schema Theory pays more attention to activating the students' internal cognitive structure to improve their reading ability.Observed from this perspective,reading comprehension is virtually an interaction between the pre-existent knowledge and the newly input messages.This paper,by illustrating the relations between Schema Theory and reading comprehension,uncovers the approaches and methods to strengthen the effects of English reading teaching.
